How The Cameroon Prime Minister Sneak Into Buea
It's really tough to see what's happening in the Anglophone regions of Cameroon, and the recent visit by Prime Minister Dion Ngute to Buea just brought it all home for me.
He arrived Buea under super tight security. And honestly, it makes sense, because you can feel the fear of attacks from separatist fighters. What's striking is that the visit itself wasn't even announced beforehand – which tells you a lot about the real situation on the ground.
And then there's the welcoming crowd. Many of us can't help but notice that a good chunk of the people supposedly "welcoming" him seemed to have been brought in from Douala. It makes you wonder, doesn't it? Is this really about genuine support, or just a show?
What really gets to me is that Dion Ngute, who's a chief from Ndian division, hasn't even been able to visit his own village since this war started. Think about that for a second. Someone in his position, unable to go home. It just highlights how deep and devastating this conflict is, even for those at the top.
For many of us, it feels like he's become just a "hand clapper" or an "errant boy" for the current regime. It's frustrating to see him, as Prime Minister, seemingly fail to call out the government military for the terrible acts they're reportedly committing against the people in these regions. Where's the accountability? Where's the empathy?
It's a really complex and heartbreaking situation, and it leaves many of feeling like their voices aren't truly heard or represent
